Tsunemasa Iwasaki Galleries

Tsunemasa (or Kan'en) (1786-1842) was a respected botanist who authored several picture books about plants. The titles of two of these books are given below. Click on a title to see some of the book's pictures. Tsunemasa drew his picture subjects in a realistic way, similar to European botanical drawings. However, many of the accompanying plant names given by Tsunemasa are no longer used. The English and scientific names of these plants are labelled 'unknown'.
